We cannot apply water based Scotchgard on furniture. However we have found that the fabric protectors Fabric Guar and DuPont/Teflon work well on furniture. These applications protect furniture the same way Scotchgard protects carpet and rugs.

Scotchgard Treatment
Is Scotchgarding Really Effective?
There are some misconceptions out with some of our customers that not only is Scotchgarding not working but, even more, can cause resoiling. Actually, the opposite is true. Scotchgard was designed to retard soil. Since each little fiber is sealed by the Scotchgard treatment, so soil is not penetrating deep into the fabric and stays loose on the surface, when you vacuum it's removed much easier, so the fabric stays cleaner longer. In addition, stains and spots are much easier and more likely to be able to be removed. Yet if vacuuming is not done often enough, eventually the soil will be attached to the fabric and will do its destructive damage.
Upholstery Treatment
In case of furniture treatment, the manufacturer 3M sells products to the public, yet was telling us, the professionals a while ago, that this product is not very effective. Also, if one was to follow the instructions on the cans of how much to put down, it can cost the equivalent, if not more, than if our clients let us do it professionally. Since water-based scotchgard would put too much water into the fabric furniture, we use an excellent solvent-based fabric guard protector on upholstery.
